My Story

My Father Loved Mountains

...and I did too. When I was 7 years old, my father took me up Mt San Antonio. It is a 10,000 foot peak in the San Gabriel mountains outside of Los Angeles. I was hooked on mountaineering for life. Fast forward 40 years and I found myself to be an obese, over-worked, overstressed, sleep deprived middle aged man who could no more scale a couple flights of stairs than summit a mountain peak. Sporadic attempts at exercise and diets producing yo-yo weight loss and gains were of no use. A diagnosis of pre-diabetes was the last straw. I needed a real change. I took a deep dive into the most recent science on nutrition and exercise and quickly learned that, like most people, I had been doing it all wrong. The standard American diet and lifestyle along with a completely wrong-minded exercise philosophy was running completely contrary to my optimal genetic functioning. Since then I have been on an incredible journey of discovery, education and hard work. Fast forward to today. At 59 years old I weigh the same as I did as a college gymnast. My blood work, blood pressure and energy levels are that of a 20 year old as well. I climb mountains again too, including a recent summit of a snowy Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the continental US. I now participate in all the recreational and competitive sports that I used enjoy. I also sleep like a baby through the night and have renewed cognitive ability. My wish now is to help others achieve the same success that I have found.
